Well, President Obama has been in office now for 7 days and already he has done some respectable and good things. Despite the economy and the gloomy job losses reports from companies such as Caterpillar and Sprint, the President has managed to undo a sizeable portion of the damage President Bush caused. So far President Obama has:
- signed the executive order to close that disgraceful prison camp known at “Gitmo”
- repealed the “International Gag Rule” allowing federal dollars to get to clinics and health organizations in developing countries that can offer more reproductive choices to poor women such as abortion
- met with the Joint Chiefs of Staff to order them to begin the process of pulling out of Iraq within 16 months–thereby ending our illegal and unjust occupation of that sovereign nation, and focusing our military might on the people who actually DID attack us on 9/11
- is fervently working with the congress to pass a “trillion-dollar” economic stimulus package that has real teeth and accountability which just might help the average American from losing their homes!
- has directed Secretary of State Clinton to send envoys to Israel and Gaza to try to restart the peace process
- has begun reversing Bush enact environmental restrictions such as allowing California to have their own TOUGHER emissions standards in a attempt to help the environment and stave off the worsening global warming crisis
All in all, not bad for the first 7 days in office–especially considering that Bush’s first 100 days were benchmarked by the dubious honor of having had the most vacation days of any other president in history!
America wanted change; we got it!
